You may have heard about avian flu in the news. While vigilance is warranted, the overall risk is very low. We’re continuously monitoring the situation to keep you informed and up to date!
Here’s how cat parents can keep their feline friends safe:
- Keeping them indoors when possible
- Avoiding contact with wild birds
- Never feeding unpasteurized milk or raw meat products. Check out this recent article from the SF Chronicle.
(Fun fact: Despite popular belief, cats don’t need milk in their diet – it can actually cause digestive issues!)

- Avoid contact with infected animals. Avoid direct contact with birds and other animals that could be infected with bird flu. Wild birds can be infected with bird flu even if they don’t look sick. Report dead birds: Call the California Dead Bird Hotline at (877) 968-2473. Learn more here.
