Foxtails

If you have any questions or concerns, you should always visit or call San Bruno Pet – we are your best resource to ensure the health and well-being of your pets.

Foxtails, also known as plant awns can puncture through the skin to cause draining wounds. Any wound (hotspot or draining tract) that is left untreated and open to the air is at risk of developing maggots from flies. During this warm weather, it is very important to have good flea preventative on board to prevent ulcerated hot spots and to check your long haired fuzzy friends for foxtails.

Below is a video from a patient we saw in late June at San Bruno Pet. It shows maggots that went unnoticed due to the furry and dense coat of the patient.
